ABOUT

Overview
Hello there, I'm Sean McCarthy. I'm a recent graduate from Drury University and I am super passionate about the different aspects of Game Development and overall Storytelling.
I try to play a variety of games in order to gain knowledge from all sorts of genres. As long as the game has a story to tell, I'm in! Some of my favorite games include the Halo Series, The Witcher 3, and Sekiro. While it does not count as a video game, one of my favorite games of all time is Dungeons and Dragons.
Whenever I find the time to read, I can be found being emersed in fantasy writings. Some of my favorite books include The Name of The Wind, The Count of Monte Cristo, and most works by Troy Denning (his Star Wars and Halo books are beautiful).
Creative Writing
As a kid, I always preferred to be a bookworm, curled up in a corner and immersing myself in a beautiful story. I often found myself pushing to understand subjects more in school, just so I could finish my work early and sit back during the rest of class with one of my books. This contributed to my excellent sense of story-telling and in high school a teacher let me know that I could take my stories further than just the classroom. I could take my prose and show them to people all over. This little push made me determined to find a career that would allow me to tell stories to the world.
In College, I decided that I needed to make my writing just as important as my Game Development. That is why I majored in both. While I have not gotten anything published yet, I am pushing to do so.
Leadership
Through University I have been able to develop and use valuable leadership skills.
-
From 2022-2023 I was the president of the Drury Indie Game Studio club. During my time as president, I took the dwindling club and brought it back. Some things I helped orchestrate were guest speakers, a trip to the Tulsa Computer Simulation and Gaming Conference, and helped host the first-ever Drury Game Jam.

In my Software Engineering Class, we were split into teams of 4. My team picked me to be the Team Manager. Throughout the project, I was in charge of leading team meetings (and making sure everyone was able to do their scrum). I also helped delegate the tasks, making sure work was fairly distributed and that everyone had helped if they needed it.
-
In my Small Press Publishing class, I was one of the two Lead Editors and helped lead meetings. During meetings, we would go over our Literary Magazine and I would need to make sure everyone got a chance to express their opinions on the submissions.
In my different experiences of leadership, I have learned that leading a team is NOT having control, but instead making sure everyone on the team stays on track and has a chance to showcase their skills. Being a leader means that I have to play just as much of a team player as everyone else on my team.
